A group of 11 Clarendon County athletes who rose to the top in a variety of sports in high school, college and professional ranks will be inducted into the 2012 Clarendon County Athletic Hall of Fame at a banquet to be held at 6 p.m., March 10, at Manning Junior High School’s gymnasium.
Cathy Coker Batten, Brian Beatson, J.C. Britton, Homer Coker, Ned Darley, Doll Eadon, the late Althea Gibson, Mike Mahoney, Bobby Matthews, Gunter Sweat and Joey Taylor will be honored as the 2012 inductees.
Two members from the first class of 11 inductees into the Clarendon County Athletic Hall of Fame, Will Harvin and John Franklin Thames, will be presenters at this year’s banquet.
More than 750 people attended last year’s induction ceremony and Bill Brewer, a member of the CCAHOF executive committee, said he hopes more people will attend this year.
“We’re very proud of this year’s inductees,” Brewer said. “We hope the community will come out and support this year’s honorees.”
A limited number of tickets will be on sale at the door. Tickets are $25 each.
