Gracie Evelyn Burke Hinson

Gracie Evelyn Burke Hinson, 77, wife of Lewis Edward “Ed” Hinson, died Friday, Aug. 13, 2010, at NHC of Sumter.

Born April 8, 1933, in Alcolu, she was the daughter of the late Lee Howard and Mozelle Richburg Burke. She was a member of Clarendon Baptist Church in Alcolu. She was a loving and wonderful wife, mother and nanny; but she loved her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, most of all.

Surviving, in addition to her husband, are two daughters, Tammie (James) Richburg of Manning, and Sandy (Mark) Evans of Alcolu; a son, Timothy (Sonja Kay) Hinson of Manning; five grandchildren, Brett Belt, Michelle Belt, April Evans (Andrew) Orr, Robert Hinson, Ryan Hinson, and Jason Richburg; seven sisters, Alice (George) Vining, Hazel (John) Ellis, Barbara Ann Barkley, Patsy Carraway, Linda (Steve) Broadway, Debbie Bramlette, Gail (Cleve) Lancaster; one brother, Rev. LeRoy (Linda Lee) Burke; and sister-in-law, Beverly Burke.

She was predeceased by a brother, Herman Burke; and two brothers-in-law, Henry Barkley and Terry Carraway.

Funeral services will be held at 3:00 p.m. Monday, Aug. 16, 2010, in Clarendon Baptist Church in Alcolu, with the Rev. Kirk Carlisle officiating.

Burial will follow in Trinity United Methodist Church Cemetery in Alcolu.

The family wishes to extend a special thanks to her caregivers at National Healthcare, and her Solaris Hospice nurses.

The family will receive friends from 3-5 p.m. Sunday at Stephens Funeral Home in Manning, and at other times at the residence of Tammie and James Richburg, 1260 Pointer Drive, Manning.
