What a day for a golf tournament!

Temperatures were in the low 90s with a slight breeze, high puffy clouds, lots of cold beverages and good friends to tee up against in the Second Annual Scott’s Branch High Alumni Reunion Golf Tournament held at Shannon Greens Golf Course in Manning.

With only 11 participants, one might think the level of fun and festivities might be diminished, but that was certainly not the case on Saturday for the alumni of Scott’s Branch High School. Some of the golfers travelled from as far away as New York and Washington to participate in a tournament that was just one part of a weekend of activities that began Friday and included a black tie gala Saturday evening.

But, Saturday, it was time for some fun on the links.

Along with some good-natured ribbing, all the golfers and supporters had a wonderful time and raised some money for the Scott’s Branch High Alumni Association while they were at it.

Coming in third out of three teams was the team of Lawrence Boatright from New York and the Rev. John Walker, Bennie Lawson and Emanuel Lawson from Washington.

Claiming the second spot was the team of Terry Johnson of Home Branch, Herbert Bracey of Bishopville, Roddie Brailsford of Sumter and Bennie Colclough of Columbia.

Taking first place was the three-member team of Robert McFadden of Summerton, F. Evan Lawson of Sumter and a member of last year’s winning team, F. Georgie Dingle of Columbia.

Following an 18-hole round of golf, the participants along with a few wives and supporters enjoyed lunch while McFadden handed out door prizes.
