Four applicants have applied to fill a recently vacated appointed seat on the Clarendon School District 1 Board of Trustees.
The seat was vacated when the Clarendon County Board of Education voted unanimously on May 30 to remove board member Ricky Johnson from the CSD1 board because he did not live within the district, which is a requirement for serving on the board.
The four applicants for the vacated position include Cynthia Risher, the Rev. Franklin McCants Sr., Johnnie L. Lawson Sr. and Bessie E. Leonard.
The Clarendon County Board of Education will hold a special meeting at 5 p.m. July 11, to interview the four applicants and make a decision on Johnson’s replacement.
The newly appointed board member will be sworn in at CSD1’s next board meeting on July 16.
The CSD1 Board of Trustees is comprised of both appointed and elected members. The new appointee will serve alongside appointed board members Wanda Thomas, Anne Darby and Gussie H. Cochrane and elected board members John D. Bonaparte, Tony Junious, Vastine Johnson, James Jones and Bernard Richburg.
The CSD1 board meets at 5 p.m. on the third Monday of each month at the district office, 10 S. Church St. in Summerton.
