All five Clarendon County varsity football teams are slated for action in the first round of playoffs this weekend. The only team playing on their home field is Clarendon Hall.
Laurens at Clarendon Hall
Clarendon Hall, ranked #3 in the South Carolina Independent Schools Association 8-man football, takes on Laurens, SCISA’s #7 8-man team, at 7:30 p.m. Friday.
At 9-1 for the season and 5-1 in conference play, the Saints go into Friday’s game with some first-hand knowledge of what to expect from the Crusaders.
On Sept. 9, Clarendon Hall defeated Laurens in Laurens, 36-8
The winner of Friday night’s game will take on the winner of the Wardlaw-James Island Christian matchup. Wardlaw, ranked #1 in SCISA 8-man ball, is undefeated this season. In a prior matchup this season on Sept. 30, Wardlaw put a beating on JIC, 84-26.
Laurence Manning Academy at Hammond
The Swampcats travel to Columbia Friday night to take on the Skyhawks in the first round of the SCISA Class AAA playoffs.
This will be the second time these two teams have squared off this year. On Oct. 7 in Columbia, Hammond soundly defeated LMA, 38-7.
The Skyhawks are 9-1 for the season, 8-1 in conference play. LMA dropped to 5-6 for the season and 3-6 in region action.
The winner of Friday night’s game will take on the winner of Ben Lippen at Augusta Christian in the second round of playoff action.
The kickoff for Friday’s game is 7:30 p.m. The stadium is located at 854 Galway Lane in Columbia.
East Clarendon at Chesterfield
The Wolverines travel to Chesterfield Friday night to take on the Golden Rams in the first round of Class A Division I playoffs.
With just one loss on the season, Chesterfield enters the playoffs at 9-1 for the season, 5-0 in conference play.
East Clarendon finished the season at 6-4, 4-1 in region play.
The winner of Friday’s game will face off against the winner of Ninety-Six, 6-4, at Lamar, 5- 5, contest. The Wolverines lost a close one to Lamar, 24-22, on Oct. 28.
Friday night’s kick off in Chesterfield is 7:30 p.m. The stadium is located at 401 N. Page St. in Chesterfield.
Manning at Edisto
Manning, coming off a 5-5 season, faces Edisto, also 5-5 for the season, in the first round of Class AA Division I playoffs.
The two teams have almost identical records. Edisto has one more conference win, 3-2, over Manning’s 2-3.
The Monarchs and Cougars did not face each other in the regular season.
The winner of Friday night’s battle will face Dillon, who had a bye in the first round of playoffs. Dillon, a perennial powerhouse, finished the season undefeated.
The kick off between Manning and Edisto is 7:30 p.m. at 500 R.M. Foster Drive in Cordova.
Scott’s Branch at Whale Branch
It’s the battle of the Branches.
Coming off a win in the State Championship last year, the young Eagles’ team struggled this season to finish at 3-7, 2-3 in the conference. They’ll be taking on a Warrior team that finished 7-3, 4-3 in region play.
The winner of the Battle of the Branches will take on the winner of Bethune-Bowman at Timmonsville.
The kick off Friday night is 7:30 at 169 Detour Road in Seabrook.
