Turbeville 7/Darlington 3
Turbeville 2/Darlington 1
The Turbeville Dixie Angels All Star 10-and-under softball team won the District III championship in Florence last week.
The Angels played a best two out of three series against Darlington. The Angels won the first game, 7-3, on June 25, and just squeaked by in the second game, 2-1, on June 26.
Cassey Springs was the winning pitcher with Alyssa Newell as the catcher in the decisive game.
Darlington scored one run in the first inning on three errors.
Turbeville remained scoreless until the fourth inning when Amanda Floyd led off with a single. Madison Lamb followed with a bunt attempt that ended up as a triple when Darlington missed the throw to first. Floyd ended up scoring on the play. With Turbeville’s go ahead run on third, Springs hit into an RBI ground out that put Turbeville up 2 to 1. That was all the scoring Turbeville needed to win the game.
Darlington got a couple of batters on base in the last inning but could not get any runs across the plate.
The Angels will compete in the South Carolina State Dixie Darlings Championship double-elimination series beginning July 7 in Hanahan. Brackets have yet to be determined.
