Dewey Burdell Coker Jr., 60, passed away at his home on Monday, Aug. 30, 2010.
Born Jan. 4, 1950, in Sumter, he was the son of the late Dewey Burdell Coker Sr. and the late Margaret Elizabeth Gainey Coker. He was an electronics technician, a member of Sixteen Acres Hunting Club, former member of Riverside Hunting Club and Statesburg Hunting Club. He was of the Holiness faith.
Surviving are a daughter, Melissa Elaine Coker (Jamie) Ivey of Sumter; a son, Patrick Keith (Leslie) Coker of New Mexico; four sisters, Sandra Elizabeth Rodgers, Patricia Coker (Ray) Hudson and and Brenda Ellen Coker, all of Sumter, and Karen Cecil (Scott) Snider of Byron, GA; two brothers, Michael (Sheryl) Coker of Summerton, and Sheldon Gainey “Don” (Annie) Coker of Sumter; seven grandchildren, Ryan Coker, Hunter Coker, Reygane Lee, Nathaniel Moser, J.J. Ivey III, Tiera Smith and Dylan Smith; one great grandchild, Keagan Smith; a number of nieces, nephews, and great nieces and nephews; and his beloved dog, Whopper.
A memorial service was held on Thursday, Sept. 2, 2010, in the chapel of Stephens Funeral Home in Manning, with the Rev. William Kevin Cribb officiating.
