David Green

HIGH POINT, N.C. -- David “Pap” Green, 65, died Thursday, Aug. 12, 2010, at Wesley Long Community Hospital, Greensboro, N.C.

Born June 23, 1945, in Hallsboro, N.C., he was a son of the late Ellison and Lucinda Nelson Green. He received his education while attending Spring Grove Elementary School and Manchester School. In his youth, he attended Antioch UME in Rimini. He later moved to Thomasville, N.C., and secured a job with the Masonite Corp. to help support his mother, sisters and brother. On one of his visits back home, David met and married the love of his life, Vivian Gibson, and to this union two sons were born. David also was a member of Free Will UME Church in Thomasville, N.C., where he served as steward under the Rev. Willie Green. David had a love of farming and when he retired. in August of 2007, he started a lawn service business.

David leaves to cherish his memories: a devoted wife of 41 years, Vivian Gibson Green of High Point; two sons, David Isaac Green of Greensboro and Dwayne Sherod Green of Flushing, N.Y.; Jermaine Redfern, who was like a son to him, of High Point; one brother, the Rev. Earnest (Mary Ann) Green of Rimini; three sisters, Christine (James) Ellison of Thomasville, N.C., Rena Bell (Elijah) Johnson of Thomasville and Sarah Ann Green of Rimini; one aunt, Rosa Dell Hampton of Pinewood; two special cousins who were like brothers to him, James Nelson and Willie Green; and other relatives and friends.

Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Wednesday at Antioch UME Church, Rimini, with the Rev. Jonathan Smith, pastor, assisting the Revs. Willie Green, Brenda Junious, Amos Hatcher, Charlie Hampton, Earnest Green and Robert James.

Burial will follow in Antioch Memorial Garden, Rimini.
