Konstantin Vengerowsky/Clarendon Citizen - Ansley DuRant will start as the new events administrator for Weldon Auditorium on Aug. 8.

Ansley DuRant has been hired as the new events administrator for Weldon Auditorium, effective Aug. 8.

Clarendon County Administrator/Attorney David Epperson said that DuRant was chosen for the position out of 15 applicants, five of whom were interviewed.

“She was selected based on her education, small business experience and experience in the theater and arts,” Epperson said.

DuRant is a 2001 graduate of Wofford College with a Bachelor of Arts degree in business economics. Her previous work experience includes working for a construction equipment company in Greenville. DuRant said that it was there that she learned all of the intricacies of operating a business from accounting and managing to marketing and event planning. She currently works for Rhodes Graduation Services in Summerton.

DuRant’s theater connection includes a membership in the Downtown Symphony Club in Greenville for young adults interested in becoming symphony patrons. She also was active in theater in high school and performed for the Carolina Ballet Theatre in Greenville.

DuRant, 33, who has resided in Clarendon County since April, said that she would like to get feedback from the county’s residents on their suggestions for the utilization of Weldon.

“I want to talk with the community and see what performances they would like to see here,” she said. “I want to bring something that would appeal both to the younger and the older communities.”

DuRant said that she will work hard to make sure Weldon is fiscally responsible.

“I’m a budgeter to the core,” she said. “It’s an amazing facility that can attract many different types of performances that would be beneficial to the county.”
