Get a workout in and get your fruits and veggies afterwards! The Cypress Center Farmers Market will have its grand opening celebration at 4:30 p.m., Thursday, June 28. The event will include a cooking demo by the Clarendon Health System’s own Chef Evan Hallinan with a special gift for 50 market shoppers that afternoon and more.
The Cypress Center Farmers Market is open for business on Wednesday mornings from 7-9:30 a.m. and on Thursday afternoons from 4:30-7:30 p.m.
The market is located at the Cypress Center and serves the dual role of providing its employees with better access to fresh produce and being another access point for the community.
Travis Pruden, director of CHS’ The Zone Health and Wellness Center, is the health system’s farmers market manager. The farmers market is part of the South Carolina Hospital Association’s Wellness Initiative.
The goal of this statewide initiative is to help hospitals make an impact in the overall health of their employees by focusing on three primary areas: nutrition, physical activity and tobacco cessation by providing more and healthier options.
“The ultimate goal is that lessons learned within our own walls can be taken out to different worksites throughout the Clarendon community,” Pruden said.
Sara Richburg, programs coordinator at The Zone Health and Wellness Center said that they hope to expand this project in the future.
“We want to encourage everyone to have a healthy lifestyle and eating your fruits and vegetables is a part of that,” she said.
The Cypress Center is located at 50 East Hospital Street. For more information on the farmers market, contact Travis Pruden at The Zone at (803) 435-5200.
