Clarendon Health System is constructing an EMS substation on Players Course Road, near Wyboo Plantation.
Bill Upp, director of facilities development and engineering for Clarendon Health System, said that the reason for the substation is the population growth on Players Course Road, including the developments of Wyboo Plantation and Deer Creek Plantation. The new substation will house one paramedic, a quick-response vehicle and rescue boat. Eventually the station will include an ambulance with an EMT and paramedic.
“This is a growing area,” Upp said. “We’re preparing for the future needs of this expansion.”
The paramedic in the quick response vehicle will respond to a location immediately, and call in for an ambulance if transport to Clarendon Memorial Hospital is needed. The closest EMS station to Players Course Road currently is the one of Hwy. 260 towards Santee Dam, just past first water. The new substation will also serve the area of White Oak 1, on White Oak Drive and the Potato Creek area.
“This will be a centrally located facility, with two full-size garages, and full living quarters,” he said.
Clarendon Health System currently has one EMS station in Manning, and three substations, in Summerton, Turbeville and Clarendon County’s Fire Station 4, just past first water.
Approximately 550 people reside in Wyboo Plantation, according to Fred Tucker, property manager.
