The Clarendon County Dixie Bells finished third in the 2012 Dixie Bells District 3 Tournament held in Dillon.
With two wins and one loss going into the July 16 game with Dillon, Clarendon’s Dixie Belles needed to win to stay in the tournament, but that wasn’t to be. Clarendon lost to Dillon, 12-2.
Dillon got on the board first scoring five runs in the second inning.
Clarendon followed cutting Dillon’s lead to three in their half of the second on a double by Kadaijah Green and that was all the scoring for Clarendon in the game.
In the third, Dillon had two more players cross the plate increasing their lead to 9-1. In the fourth, Dillon tacked on four additional runs with two more runs added in the fifth.
Courtney Beatson was the losing pitcher. Shannon Corbett, Beatson and Ansley Ridgill all had singles.
“Our girls had some errors but did well considering the wet fields,” said Head Coach Evelyn Gamble. “Dillon was really putting the bat on the balls. Overall, I’m very proud of these girls. We were there playing just like we deserved to be there. We came in third place out of eight teams. That’s a great accomplishment.”
Gamble said she was also pleased that of the eight teams, her team was chosen as to receive the tournament’s Sportsmanship award.
“That’s the greatest accomplishment of them all,” Gamble added. “We represented the county very well.”
