Clarendon clinic offers Endocrinology specialtist

According to the S.C. Dept. of Health and Environmental Control, “South Carolina ranks seventh in diabetes prevalence, and Santee Cooper Urgent Care is doing something about it. Dr. Rudolf “Rudy” Jokl is a certified internal medicine physician and is also certified in endocrinology and will begin seeing patients as an internist and an endocrinologist on Sept. 13.

An estimated 414,840 people in South Carolina are aware that they have diabetes. However, there are at least that many others in whom diabetes is still undetected.  Thus, approximately 830,000 people in South Carolina have diabetes.”

Diabetes is just one of many diseases that often require the intervention of a specialist such as an endocrinologist.

“There are many diseases, including diabetes, hypertension and thyroid disorders that can be well managed by an endocrinologist,” Jokl said. “These types of illnesses can have complex disease issues.”

Jokl is a native of the Czech Republic and studied there. In 1991, he came to South Carolina to do research in diabetes and vascular diseases at the Medical University of South Carolina.

He had already begun working in the Clarendon Memorial Emergency Department in 1996, ten years prior to his departure from MUSC.

He and his wife Renata have a son who is 24 and a daughter who is 16. The Jokl family makes their home in Mt. Pleasant.
