Clarendon Health System will host an open house for the recently completed EMS Wyboo Base on 1595 Players Course Road from 12-2 p.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 31.
The new station will service the Wyboo, White Oak 1 and Potato Creek areasaccording to Bill Upp, director of facilities development and engineering for Clarendon Health System.
The closest EMS station to Players Course Road currently is on Hwy. 260 towards Santee Dam, just past first water. Upp said the new substation is necessary to serve the growing population on Players Course Road, including the developments of Wyboo Plantation and Deer Creek Plantation
“This is a centrally located facility, with two full-size garages, and full living quarters,” he said.
The 18,800 square foot building has room for two ambulances, two bedrooms, two baths, a kitchen and squad room. The station will be manned by a paramedic 24 hours a day, and will house a rescue boat and EMS truck to begin with, and eventually an ambulance, said Upp.
The paramedic in the quick response vehicle will respond to a location immediately, and call in for an ambulance if transport to Clarendon Memorial Hospital is needed, Upp said.
Clarendon Health System currently has one EMS station in Manning, and three substations, in Summerton, Turbeville and Clarendon County’s Fire Station 4, just past first water.
