Chester Pompey, 83, widower of Queen Esther Bennett Pompey died, Monday, Jan. 30, 2012, at Abington Hospice Care, Warminster, Pa. He’s the son of the late Richard and Henrietta Jerro Pompey. He was born April 11, 1928, in Pompeytown section of Clarendon County.
He received his formal education in the public schools of Clarendon County.
Chester was the founder of South Carolina Demolitions in Philadelphia, Pa.
After retiring in 1990, he returned home and reunited with his home church, Pine Grove A.M.E. Church where he was a faithful member serving on the Trustee Board and a member of the Pride of Foreston Masonic Lodge NO. 296.
Survivors are three sons, Terry (Stephanie) Pompey of Woolwich Township, N.J.; Richard Pompey and Chester Pompey Jr. both of Philadelphia, Pa.; two daughters, Cynthia Teena Reynolds and Jessica (Juan) Jackson both of Philadelphia, Pa.; two sisters, Carrie Green of Philadelphia, Pa.; Henrietta Bennett of Manning; seven grandchildren and six great-grandchildren; two sisters-in-law and one brother-in-law.
Remains will be placed in the church at 1 p.m. with services at 2 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 4, 2012, at Pine Grove A.M.E. Church, 5865 Kenwood Road (Old River Road), Greeleyville.
