Charles “Ben” Evans Sr., 70, died Wednesday, June 27, 2012, at Clarendon Memorial Hospital, Manning. He was born Oct. 29, 1941, in New Zion, a son of Henry Johnson and the late Almenda Evans Witherspoon.
At an early age, he confessed Christ as his personal Savior and joined Howard Chapel A.M.E. Church, New Zion.
He received his formal education in the public schools of Clarendon and graduated from Walker Gamble High School, New Zion.
He moved to Newark, N.J. for 40 years where he worked for McFadden Fencing and in the construction industry.
He leaves to cherish his memory a son, Charles Evans Jr.; one daughter, Sharon Evans; one uncle, Levi Evans; his caregivers, Shirley Jean Evans and Mamie Evans and a host of cousins and dear friends.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday, July 3, 2012, at 11 a.m. at Hayes F. & LaNelle J. Samuels Sr. Memorial Chapel, 114 North Church St., Manning.
Burial will follow in the Manning Cemetery, Manning.
The family is receiving friends at the home of his cousin, Mamie Evans 3759 American Ave., Turbeville.
