The mission of the Clarendon Christian Learning Center is to promote Bible literacy in Clarendon County and relate the biblical truths to the lives of the students.
There is perhaps no more vital issue in the lives of girls in grades 7-12, than the impact that an unplanned pregnancy would have on their lives.
To that end, the CCLC has worked hard with their teenage girls to arm them with facts and statistics about what such a pregnancy would mean to their lives.
Last month, the CCLC girls in grades 7-12, attended the Rebecca St. James Fundraiser sponsored by Light of Hope Pregnancy Center in Sumter. Light of Hope Pregnancy Center is a non-profit pregnancy services center located in Sumter, which provides confidential services to teen girls and young women.
Rebecca St. James is one of today’s most loved and respected international Christian music artists.
The Sydney, Australia native has made the globe her mission field since debuting in 1994 at age 16.
Her contemporary Christian hit, “Wait For Me,” addressed St. James’ inspiring commitment to remain abstinent until marriage.
According to CCLC Administrator Erie Brown, the girls of CCLC met together a couple of weeks ago for a “girls’ night out” to watch the movie “Sarah’s Choice,” which starred St. James.
“Equipped with knowledge and statistics of unplanned pregnancies and their impact on women, families and society, these girls (and some of their fellow male students – about 33 in all) enthusiastically embraced a plan to respond biblically to women who are facing tough choices,” Brown noted. “I John 3:16-17 tells us: ‘This is how we know what love is: Jesus Christ laid down His life for us. And we ought to lay down our lives for our brothers. If anyone has material possessions and sees his brother in need but has no pity on him, how can the love of God be in him? Dear, children, let us not love with words or tongue but with actions and in truth.’”
Brown said the girls got busy – collecting coins to purchase baby items and to create wreaths for expectant mothers at the Light of Hope Pregnancy Center.
An invitation was extended to CarolAnn Paul, executive director of Light of Hope, who graciously agreed to visit and speak to CCLC junior high and high school classes.
She was presented with 15 creative wreaths laden with baby items, according to Brown.
Paul informed the students that their donations would be shared at an upcoming baby shower honoring nine birth mothers who have chosen life for their unborn. This multi-faceted learning experience combined educating students in the area of abstinence and the far-reaching effects and consequences of unplanned pregnancy with the true wisdom and compassion of the Bible ultimately affording a creative opportunity for compassion and generosity.
