Carrie Sharpe

Carrie Sharpe died Friday, March 26, 2010, at Sumter Health and Rehabilitation Center.

Born Oct. 26, 1910, in Alcolu, she was a daughter of the late Janie Sharpe McFadden. Her education was obtained in the public schools of Fairfield County. She was a longtime employee of Uniroyal Goodrich Tire Co. in Fairfield County and retired after numerous years of service. She was a lifelong member of Calvary Presbyterian Church in Winnsboro and was active with the United Presbyterian Women’s Organization. In 1999, shortly after her retirement, she returned to Clarendon County.

She is survived by four nieces, Malvenia (David) Wells of Alcolu and Janie Mae James, Josephine Perry and Betty Moody, all of Hartford, Conn.; two nephews, James Sharpe Jr. of Sumter and Richard Sharpe of Charlotte, N.C.; two devoted friends, Evelyn Henry and Jessie Mae Alexander, both of Winnsboro; several devoted cousins, relatives and friends.

A brother, James Sharpe Sr., preceded her in death.

Funeral services were held on Wednesday, March 31, 2010, at Harmony Presbyterian Church (USA) in Alcolu, with the Rev. Carnell Hampton officiating, the Rev. Gloria Williams, eulogist, assisted by Dr. Ella Busby.

Interment followed in the church cemetery.

Fleming and DeLaine Funeral Home and Chapel of Manning was in charge of the arrangements.
