Annie Lou Woods Smith, 95, widow of Murray Hampton Smith, died Tuesday, June 19, 2012, at Country Wood Nursing Home, Hopkins. She’s the daughter of the late McSwain Solomon Henry Woods and Julia Rush Woods. She was born Sept. 15, 1916, in Olanta.
She received her formal education in the public schools of Florence County.
In her youth, she accepted Christ and joined Jordan Chapel Freewill Baptist Church, Olanta, and sang on the choir for many years.
She was a member of the Jordan Chapel #237 Order of Eastern Star.
Survivors are five daughters: Julia Smith, Glyceria (Rufus) Wimberly, Annie Joe Butler, Bonnie (Weldon) Hawkins and Zylphia Smith; 13 grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren; a host of nieces, nephews other relatives and dear friends.
Remains will be placed in the church at 11 a.m. with services beginning at noon Saturday, June 23, 2012, at Jordan Chapel Freewill Baptist Church, Olanta.
Burial will follow in the churchyard cemetery.
