ECHS Boys inched out by Johnsonville
East Clarendon High School Boys lost a close game to Johnsonville High School in the first round of the South Carolina 1A state playoffs on Tuesday, Feb. 14.
Johnsonville - 71/ECHS - 61
Leading scorers were Korey McFadden with 16 points, Carlos Hickson with 15, Jearl Harrison with 14, Nate Rowland with 12 and Lorell Fleming with four.
The two teams were tied at the end of the first three quarters, with Johnsonville outscoring ECHS 22-12 in the fourth to take the game.
Head Coach Justin Waiters said that his team did well overall, but had some problems in the fourth, which cost ECHS the game.
“Things kind of folded in the fourth quarter; we made some key turnovers and technical fouls,” he said.
ECHS will be losing seven seniors this year: Rowland, McFadden, Hickson, Chris McGill, William Ham, Ray Kersey and Antwan Barnes.
ECHS girls fall to Latta
East Clarendon High School Lady Wolverines fell to the Latta High School Lady Vikings in the first round of the South Carolina 1A state playoffs on Monday, Feb 13.
Lady Vikings - 52/Lady Wolverines - 34
Leading scorers were Alexus Watford with 13 points, D’onna McFadden with 12, Mica McFadden with seven, and Jennifer Melton with two.
Head Coach James Green said that the girls performed well in the last three quarters, being outscored by only a few points. The Lady Vikings led in all four quarters, outscoring the Lady Wolverines 11-4 in the first, 11-10 in the second, 15-10 in the third, and 15-10 in the fourth.
Green said that he will be losing six seniors this year: Watford, Melton, Kelsey Shaw, Mica McFadden, Alex Martinez and LaTisha Wells.
